Bicycling Works!
The recent staging of the Jamaica Fat Tyre Festival in the parish of St. Mary was an unqualified success. Endorsed and supported by the Jamaica Tourist Board and attended by professional riders from around the world, the Festival showcased the parish’s world-class mountain biking trails and unique attractions as well as the spirit and hospitality of St. Mary residents.

Media reports and a feature published in Decline Magazine bode well for positioning St. Mary as a year-round mountain bicycling destination. In short,
St. Mary residents now have a legitimate opportunity of benefiting from an emerging mountain bicycling sector.
However, Due to a lack of suitable bicycling equipment, organizational skills and structured sport development pathways, youth in St.
Mary are at risk of being excluded from reaping the benefits of the mountain biking market emerging within their very own
communities.

The Bicycling Works! project creatively addresses these issues with the mission of: Cultivating among St. Mary youth a
bicycling culture which builds life skills and bicycling capacity while leading to income generating opportunities within the bicycling sector.

We are doing this by:
Establishing bicycling clubs in local high schools
Working to provide bicycles for these clubs;
Providing riding and life skills training to club members;
Actively working to include club members in SMORBA operations.
