Jamaica Bicycle Bash
Since the Fat Tyre Festival’s inception in 1997, the last day of the event has been reserved for efforts to promote the sport of mountain biking to local Jamaicans. Traditionally, this has involved staging the “Jamaican National Mountain Biking Championships”.
Although those efforts succeeded in providing a legitimate race as a possible entry point into the Pan American Games, Olympics, etc they never really took off from the perspective of local participation.
In 2008 SMORBA decided to head in a different direction by moving away from a National Championship Race to a day of fun activities designed to highlight Jamaican bicycling culture and provide an avenue for Jamaicans to celebrate their love affair with their bicycles. Dubbed the Jamaica Bicycle Bash - A Celebration of Jamaican Bicycling Culture, we weren’t sure what to expect. By the end of the day we realized we had made history and created an event sure to stay on the calendar for years to come!
2009 continued the tradition with even more people and even more bicycles! Back were favorites such as the Bunny Hop, Rambo Race and Rambolympics. New for ’09 was the Skills Course race which added even more excitement to the day.
2010 saw a bit of a schedule change as the Bicycle Bash moved to the FIRST day of the Fatta Tyre Festival. But the great vibes continued and an appearance from the Skydive Jamaica Team capped off a great day! For fantastic photos go to the
