BMX Racing
BMX racing is getting ready to BLOW UP in Jamaica.
In July of last year, the USA Cycling Federation sent out a "Request for Proposal" from various Caribbean Islands saying they were prepared to help build BMX programs in the region. Interested countries were to respond with a plan for building the sport.
The Jamaica Cycling Federation tapped SMORBA to write its response and guess what? JAMAICA WON! That's right we now have a signed deal with the USA Cycling Federation for them to help build a track right here in Oracabessa!
Our end of the bargain is to find land, dirt and equipment and we now have a firm, written commitment from the Sports Development Foundation to assist with those items.
Update!!! As of October 24 we have 50% (2500 of 5,000 yards) of the material needed to build the track on-site. If the weather holds out for the next couple weeks, we could be building the track in November!
Building the sport is going to be a long road. In addition to a track we need bikes, safety equipment, coaching, and all the bits and pieces that go into the sport development process. But we are confident we can figure it out and will keep you updated with all the information on the
SMORBA Jamaica Mountain Biking and BMX Blog.
